Packing Westbrook up | Monday, July 19th, 2021
The packaging of historic moments may be more valuable than the moment itself.
Hello, it’s Monday. You knew it was coming sooner or later.
The Bucks beat the Suns in Game 5, and the Topshot marketplace has already annointed them recipients of the next Championship Badge.
There’s a new Quest builder on-site! It’s pretty snazzy, no need to worry about naming and capitalizations with this one. Check it out for the Russ Triple Double Quest.
Topshot made a fractionally small mistake with their previous Collector Score calculations (it’s good to know it’s too confusing even for them) and as compensation mailed out purchase links to the ATTW4 packs on Friday night to lucky eligible collectors.
Reader Phil managed to score one of those email links. He writes: “Holy sh!t, I got a link! Solidly +EV even though my rare was no one special”
Congrats to Phil, and it’s great to hear that even when the odds are so miniscule they can still work out in your favor.

General Advice
This latest Showcase Quest will reward all completers with a moment immortalizing Russell Westbrook who set the record for career triple-doubles, passing Oscar Robertson (woah!)
I for one really like this Topshot tradition of creating moments from historic record holder passing, and packing them up. I will be completing this quest, and this pack will remain unopened in my vault alongside my Cool Cats Steph Curry.
One day, I’ll have a nice collection of sealed, historic moments from some of the biggest names of today, surpassing the biggest names of yesteryear. That will be cool!
Dear reader, thank you for joining me today, and every day for the last several months.
It’s now time to share my plans for this newsletter with you. It was always my intention to shut this down during the NBA offseason. I don’t want, and you don’t want, my analysis of what the latest trade rumor is doing to the Topshot marketplace.
With Game 6 tomorrow, and only one possible game after that, it’s time to let you know that in the off-season the frequency of this newsletter will be sporadic at best. I will try my best to keep you up-to-date with new features on the platform, the new sets coming in the offseason and more, but you won’t be hearing from me every day, after the season ends.
This newsletter has been a labor of love that I started on a whim, and have just kept running with it. I love writing about Topshot for you, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about it from me. I cherish each one of you, my readers, and fear not! I will be back with the return of the ‘21-’22 NBA season. After these Finals, I will take a summer’s rest.

L.A. Times has an NFT explainer - specifically on their impact on sports.
The S.C.M.P (the paper of record in HK) is tokenizing parts of their archive, and the cultural attractions of Hong Kong. It will be in The Sandbox, and in my mind bodes promisingly for the future of NFTs in China.
I, for one, cannot wait for non-fungible ticketing. Going to a stadium right now is a mess of third-party ticket sellers, team apps, stadium apps, league apps, Covid tests, and more. Here’s a mostly irrelevant link, but I’m here for the future.
